Sunsap
Sunsap is a sunscreen that aims towards encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle for all while still practicing responsible skin care. Sunscreen is often thought of as just a “beach” product when in reality sunscreen should be used regularly to prevent harmful sun rays from damaging your skin too much. Most American adults do not use sunscreen regularly and view sunscreen as an inconvenience.

Sunsap’s main goal is its sustainable packaging and design that is representative of its goals in the sunscreen industry. Incorporating a predominantly paperboard design, Sunsap aims to revolutionize the sun protection industry by offering a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastic sunscreen bottles. Our sustainability efforts are reflected with our sustainable design that echoes throughout the branding so that customers can see Sunsap’s overall positive impact in the personal care and cosmetic industry in regards to social and environmental responsibility, transparency, and accountability. Sunsap also emphasizes the importance of being outside and having fun. By revolving our brand around the mental and physical wellbeing of customers, Sunsap is a sunscreen solution that is poised to create a healthier lifestyle for a healthier world.

The packaging designers: Chase Cullen, Krista McCullough, and Timothy Kozine; and the graphic designers: Natalie Sanchez and myself collaborated to create the physical and digital designs of this package.
Research and Strategy
We began gathering research of existing companies that informed the various strategies for Sunsap that would ensure success.
Conceptual Exploration
On the packaging side, our team focused on a gable-top tube design that common juice boxes come in but flared out the sides to create a shape that could squeeze out the sunscreen easier.

The curved shapes resemble organic textures found in nature to reflect Sunsap's sustainability efforts. Our teardrop shape in the descender of the "p" represents our sunscreen product as well as evoking the naturality of where sap comes from.
